Het warme weer gooide de plannen enorm in de war; toch nog veel visite op mijn verjaardag zelf en vrijdag was er geen land te bezeilen met onze kleine man. Het was ook echt veel te warm.

Laat ik beginnen met wat ik nu eigenlijk zou moeten doen, maar vanwege blogverplichtingen (ik denk dat dat nu wel aan de orde is) even wat mensen tegemoet kom. Zal geen namen noemen, maar er zijn een aantal 'ongeduldige dames' voorbij gekomen. Tijd dus voor een update! Hieronder mijn verplichte kost voor morgen... psychopathologie. Zal je de details besparen, maar och kommer en kwel wat een hoop symptomen! Ben er ook eerlijk gezegd klaar mee voor dit schooljaar en snak naar de zomervakantie!

Totaal ongepast met alle tentamens momenteel, maar kon een aantal tripjes naar de kringloop en rommelmarkt niet weerstaan. Ik zal het zelf maar zeggen; Foei! Ik heb deze en een paar van haar vriendinnen meegenomen en de koffie smaakt er heerlijk uit!

Laat ik allereerst beginnen met de behangkwestie. Er is behang, maar dit zit dus nog niet op de muur. Muurverf hetzelfde verhaal. Staat al een tijdje klaar, maarja tijd he... MIJN behangetje is uiteindelijk in de kast terechtgekomen. Even onder ons; van een hele muur van dit hele gave maar (in het echie) zeer hysterische printje had je mij ook kunnen opvegen. Daarbij heb ik gemerkt dat je dit soort dingen bij mannen gedoseerd moet brengen. Hubs keek even of ik opgenomen moest worden toen ik vertelde dat het ook echt oud behang was en er daarom soms hele kleine vlekjes op het behang kunnen zitten. En ja daar heb ik ook daadwerkelijk geld voor betaald, maar het leek me beter dit niet hardop te herhalen om hem er zo niet aan te herinneren.
Het behang van de muur is er dus wel, maar heeft wat hindernissen. Zoals aan beide kant van de rol een extra cm papier. Als iemand weet wat het nut EN de brilliante manier van behangen daarbij hoort, lees ik dat uiteraard graag. Ik wacht even tot een beter tijdstip (lees= beter humeur)om dit bij hubs te melden. Plakken kan namelijk wat langer duren dan normaal...

Het lijkt wat donker, maar het behang springt er wel aardig uit. Past ook zeer goed bij de spullen en de kast. Het lijkt wat vol (komt omdat de kast ook daadwerkelijk vol staat), maar het ontbreekt momenteel ook aan tijd om alles op te ruimen dus gaat de kast maar weer open, wordt wat geschoven en kast gaat snel wel dicht in de hoop dat vriendlief niet in de gaten heeft dat de 'meuk' weer redelijk de overhand heeft. Tja ieder goede relatie heeft zo zijn geheimen...

Nouja, behang en muurverf volgt dus nog.

De schuldige aan het tijdgebrek hier in huis wenst vanwege de voordehand liggende redenen incognito te blijven. Ik zal wederom geen namen noemen.

Ook dit jaar helaas hetzelfde als vorig voorjaar; de sering staat in bloei en het is te koud om er buiten van te genieten. Vanuit het keukenraam lijken ze me iedere ochtend weer te begroeten voor de relatief korte tijd dat ze in bloei staan. En de geur is heerlijk! Ik mis nu echt het warme voorjaarsweer want het is toch echt te koud om aan de buitentafel te gaan zitten...

Zal het er nu eindelijk van komen?

Het behang is binnen. Niet helemaal wat ik had voorgesteld want vriendlief zag het drukke bloemenbehangetje toch niet echt zitten voor op de hele wand. Hij vond een andere optie veel mooier. Ik vond de andere optie (behangetje hierboven) veel saaier, maar dat argument telt niet volgens vriendlief. Maar we hebben een leuk compromis gevonden. Saai behang, maar ik mag decoreren!

Ik heb natuurlijk wel een extra rolletje besteld van 'mijn'behangetje en die is in werkelijk nog mooier dan op dit plaatje! Ik hoop volgende week weer wat meer te kunnen showen... als vriendlief een beetje meewerkt! Dus Leonieke, nog even geduld haha...

En voordat ik het vergeet; fijne moederdag vandaag! Ik had op mijn andere blog nog een mooie foto geplaatst, maar mijn eigen laptopje heeft er de brui aangegeven en zal ik het even zonder foto's moeten doen.

Het roer om...

Grijstinten, naturel, wit, Scandinavisch... Hoe mooi ik het ook allemaal vind, het past niet bij mij. heel mooi bij anderen, maar ik word er echt een beetje troosteloos van. Ik ben duidelijk een kleurmens. Ook nu met alle natureltinten in huis ligt er toch altijd wel ergens een kussen in aqua of paars. Nu is het dan zover... weg met de eentonigheid hier in huis en te beginnen met de woonkamer! Op de lange muur heb ik dit behang uit de jaren 60/70 in gedachten:

In mijn witte kast (alhoewel ik niet kan beloven dat hij wit blijft) denk ik dit behangetje:

Jammer dat ik alleen de hulp van vriendlief nodig heb om de huiskamer aan te pakken. Het kan dus nog wel even duren...

Alhoewel ik vriendlief niet nogmaals zo gek krijg voor behang van ruim 60 euro per rol, ben ik toch weer helemaal gevallen voor een geweldig behangetje van Designers Guild uit de serie Darly. Momenteel helemaal hot gespot in de Seasons en talloze Engelse tijdschriften.

Dat we dit jaar met z'n drietjes zouden afsluiten had ik aan het begin van het jaar niet durven hopen. Wat een rijkdom. Beide mannen liggen nu (7 uur's avonds) heerlijk in slaap en heb ik even tijd voor een laatste blogpost van dit jaar.

Nog een paar nachtjes en dan begint het 'gewone' leven weer. Onze kleine vent 2 dagen in de week naar het kinderdagverblijf en moeders de vrouw weer hard aan de slag om alles in orde te krijgen voor studie/school in februari. Wat gaat de tijd snel... Voor mijn gevoel nog maar vorige week dat ik de zomervakantie begon met het afsluiten van het derde jaar van mijn studie en stagejaar en zo sta ik verwonderd boven de box te genieten van de megastappen die ons kleintje doormaakt. Mooi trouwens hoe zo'n klein mensje alles in perspectief zet.

Ook hier in en rondom het huis is er dit jaar een hoop veranderd... behalve de chaotisch puinzooi, die was er daarvoor ook al. Een tuinhuis waar we 2 weken terug voor het eerst in gegeten hebben met een tafel vol vrienden. Het had wat weg van een opgeleukte skihut, maar wel net zo gezellig... met 2 straalkacheltjes en een oor geplakt aan de babyfoon! Lekker kneuterig.

Ik sluit dit jaar af met een een gevoel wat haast niet te beschrijven is. Zo heeft het moeten zijn. Een rijkdom van het hart. Een gevoel compleet te zijn. Ik heb alles wat mijn hartje begeert en genoeg in mijn hart om te geven.

Ik wens jullie allemaal veel "Love, Health, Welth and Time to enjoy them" in 2010!!

Voor het eerst sinds dagen is het me gelukt om de kleine man op bed te krijgen en dat hij daar ook daadwerkelijk slaapt. Met een half oor tegen de babyfoon aangeplakt heb ik dan ook echt wat tijd voor mezelf... even geen strijk, was of andere babygerelateerde werkzaamheden, maar serieus een uurtje om weer even bij te tanken... Hoog tijd voor een nieuwe blogpost dus!

Afgelopen week zag ik dat de stoffenbeurs voor de laatste maal dit jaar Rotterdam zou aandoen en spontaan kwamen de symptomen... Zondag toog ik dus 'even snel' tussen de kraamvisite door (ja, eigenlijk was dit weer volslagen onmogelijk maar het bloed kruipt waar het niet gaan kan) naar de markt waar ik goed geslaagd ben voor stof. Ik ging eigenlijk voor wat leuke jongensstofjes, maar kwam thuis met 10 meter stof voor mezelf. Al heb ik nog geen idee wat ik ermee wil doen... Van vriendlief mag ik nog even niet aan de slag met verf of behang in de woonkamer (aarrrggghhhh!!!!) dus moest mn kleurenshot hebben van de stoffen... en toch kriebelt het om nog even verf te halen en te kijken voor een rolletje behang. Het is maar goed dat de euforie van de kleine vent in slaap krijgen in zn eigen bed in plaats van de box het nu even wint! Nu nog leuke projectjes verzinnen voor de stoffen... Iemand suggesties???

Now I wasn't that great with math in high school but is it normal when you put in 120 cc of milk it comes out in 3 kg of poo?! I was very glad I ate already before changing his diaper because this was not a job to do on a empty stomach...

Zoveel gaat er niet in.... maar des te meer komt er uit! Is het normaal dat als je er 120 cc voeding 'ingooit' het er uitkomt in een luier van zo'n 3 kilo?! PPpfff.... Gelukkig had ik vanochtend mn ontbijtje al achter mn kiezen want dit was zeer zeker geen klus voor op een lege maag!

Although I don't really write a lot of personal stories, this time I do. Because you do need to be aware. Because you need to know. Every year in October I participate in my own way to the breastcancer awareness month for personal reasons. Three sisters of my grandmother died of breastcancer at a very young age. My favourite 'aunt' died because of it in 2005. She chose to ignore the warning signs but she knew. She did not make an appointment when she got the calls for the national research for breast cancer. Maybe if she wasn't so scared for the unknown things might have turned out differently. She fought the breastcancer off once but wasn't able to when it returned.

Ik schrijf vrijwel geen zeer persoonlijke verhalen op mn blog, maar voor deze keer maak ik een uitzondering. Deze maand is voor mij zeer belangrijk. Al een aantal jaar draag ik de hele maand oktober mn pink ribbon speldje ter nagedachtenis aan mijn 'tante' die in 2005 is overleden aan de gevolgen van bortkanker. Net als haar 2 zussen op een veel te jonge leeftijd. De signalen waren daar, maar vanwege angst voor het onbekende en misschien ook wel juist het bekende ging ze niet in op de oproepen voor het borstonderzoek. De eerste keer overwon ze de ziekte, maar de tweede keer kwam hij dubbel zo hard terug en was er geen overwinning te behalen. Ik vraag me altijd af of de uitkomst misschien anders was geweest als ze vroegtijdig naar de dokter was gegaan...

This year I had a scare of my own. Being pregnant comes with a lot of bodily changes especially in the 'boob-department' and I found a lump in my armpit. I went to the doctor and got an ultrasound (if you are pregnant they're reluctant to make a photo because of radiation) and it turned out to be something they call mama-tissue. The problem is they cannot be 100% sure because an ultrasound isn't 100% accurate so I'll have to go back in about 3 months.

Dit jaar vond ik mezelf op de onderzoekstafel van de dokter. Zwangerschap komt met veel lichamelijke veranderingen en vond ik een klein knobbeltje in mijn oksel. UIteindelijk is het onderzocht in het ziekenhuis met een echo aangezien een foto vanwege de straling nu niet kan. Ze houden het voorlopig op mama-weefsel, maar voor de zekerheid moet ik 3 maanden na de bevalling terug voor een foto.

So this year I'm even more aware about my body and the changes it has made. The pink ribbon I ware is in memory of my aunt and for the people around me to become aware. Because you should. Because you need to know. So make an appointment with your doctor and stay safe!

Ik draag mijn Pink Ribbon om aandacht te vragen voor borstkanker. Wees bewust van je lijf. Dus doe zelfonderzoek, leer je lijf kennen en maak tijdig een afspraak bij de huisarts zodra je veranderingen opmerkt!

P.s. Nope still no baby in sight! Now 40 + 5 weeks and feeling crap... I think it's stuck down there... Thanks for asking ladies!
Nog geen beeb in zicht hoor... tot nu toe voel ik me goed ellendig en beroerd en komt inleiden steeds dichterbij. Volgens mij zit 'ie ergens met z'n voeten klem...

De laatste loodjes wegen het zwaarst.... Hoe waar, want hoe wonderbaarlijk ik een zwangerschap ook vind, ik ben het inmiddels goed zat. Ik kan niet wachten tot ik weer in mn vertrouwde 1-persoonsvelletje pas en de box heb gevuld met het stoerste mannetje ooit.... En hoewel mijn dagelijkse routine flink is gewijzigd blijven sommige dingen als vanouds. Zo is er hier vandaag jaarmarkt in ons dorp en moest ik wel met de auto gebracht worden (zo'n 500 meter), maar kon ik niet zonder mijn laatste brocante-fix voor de bevalling. Favoriet is het kraampje van oud-collegaatje Hetty en haar vriendin waar ook nu weer wat gekocht moest worden. Jammer genoeg heb ik nu vanzelfsprekend al veel mee te dragen anders had ik nog veel meer naar huis gesleept... Foto's van het huis van Hetty (dan wordt ook meteen duidelijk waarom ik perse naar dorp wilde waggelen!) staan op de blog van Sylvia; Villa Extra Echt een aanrader om te lezen en te genieten van al het moois! Een Hoeksche Waards juweeltje!

Ik baal een beetje dat ik die prachtige sprei niet heb gekocht... even kijken of ik moed kan verzamelen om nog terug te waggelen....

Even een kort berichtje; nog steeds zwanger, nog steeds in het gips en de verveling is niet te harden hier.... Dank nog voor alle lieve mailtjes en berichtjes! Ik probeer zo langzaamaan weer wat terug te typen!

Wrong time, wrong place....

With a mere 5 weeks to go before giving birth, I tripped, fell and broke my hand. Luckily the baby is fine and beside the cuts and the broken bone I'm OK. There is an upside to all this though. Now I will have time to get used to being in pain! Going into labor will be a piece of cake after this.... Right?

Een simpele stoeptegel was alles... kon gelukkig de val breken met mn schouder, hand en knie en is een gebroken botje in mn hand alles. Over 5 weken uitgerekend en 4 tot 6 weken gips.... heel handig. Een positief puntje is dat ik nu alvast kan wennen aan pijn... na een gebroken hand is bevallen een koud kunstje toch??

Zwangerschap / pregnancy

Er zijn zoveel dingen die bij dit woord door mn hoofd schieten... Ik kan er met mn hoofd niet bij dat na eeuwen evolutie je nog steeds last kan hebben van maagzuur. Naar mijn idee en mening heeft het totaal geen functie, maar geeft het alleen maar ongemak. En flink. Om nog maar te zwijgen van mn olifantenplatvoeten... Mijn brein is ook nutteloos. Voor een chaotisch iemand als ik een complete ramp. Ik vergeet zo mogelijk nog meer. Zo ben ik de afspraak bij de bank niet 1, maar zelfs 2 keer vergeten. Ze hebben ook niet meer gebeld....

So many things cross my mind about being pregnant... If you want my opinion... even after centuries of evolution it think it still has some designflaws. Why does your brain turn to mud when you're pregnant? I forget just about everything.... If you are like me you do not score points for this with friends. Or your bank because I did forget an appointment not once but twice. They've stopped calling (bothering) me.

Funny faces of summer

Heerlijk weekendje in de tuin doorgebracht en mijn camera eens goed aan het werk gezet... De vlinderstruik krijgt op zonnige dagen flink wat visite en het was dan ook een komen en gaan van gevleugelde vriendjes. Ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik panisch ben voor wespen en ander steekgevaarlijk beest, maar de nieuwsgierigheid wint het toch altijd. Prachtig wat de natuur ons te bieden heeft... als we maar de tijd nemen om echt te kijken. Ik kan bijvoorbeeld onwijs genieten van de kop van een vlinder. Naast een schat aan kleuren bieden ze ons ook een grappig aanzicht. Klik op onderstaande foto voor een vergroting.

Spent the weekend enjoying nature right in our own backyard. Even though I am frantic about everything that can sting me, I just love taking photo's of the little creatures visiting our small garden. There is so much beauty around us if we would just take some time enjoy it. Don't you just love the cute and very funny face of a butterfly? Cath's out, H&M is in!

Op de bank liggen sinds deze week de nieuwe aanwinsten van de Home- collectie van H&M (behalve de zilvergrijze. Deze is eigen fabricaat). De nesteldrang heeft nu goed toegeslagen en ik heb zelfs 3 hele banen kunnen behangen... over het behang van Cath Kidston. Vriendlief wilde er nog niet aan omdat het behang toch vrij prijzig was, maar geloof mij... met een zwangere in huis is er geen sprake van een poldermodel meer! Daarbij had ik 'em gewaarschuwd en zelfs al staaltjes laten zien. Deze had hij afgekeurd natuurlijk, maar ja. Volgens Kluun (auteur Help, ik heb mijn vrouw zwanger gemaakt) zit er dan maar 1 ding op: meebuigen. Heeft ie toch nog iets zinnigs geschreven!

After 2 months of waiting I finally got my order from the new fall Home-collection by H&M. I think they blend in really well with my new colorscheme. Even more so since I got the energy to put up the new wallpaper over the Cath Kidston one. I will post some photo's tomorrow. Obviously hubby wasn't too thrilled. He still remembers the bill for the Cath version I desperately wanted....

De afgelopen weken hebben we hard gewerkt, maar als je aan de ene klus begint wordt pijnlijk duidelijk dat andere klussen ook nodig zijn. De hal is nu bijna klaar, maar door deze metamorfose steken de muren in de huiskamer nogal magertjes af tegen het verse behangetje en decoratie. Met andere woorden... we hopen genoeg tijd (en budget) te hebben om ook de huiskamer nog op te knappen voor de kleine er is. Eens kijken of ik vandaag tijd en puf heb om wat klusjes van mijn geheime lijst te strepen. Je weet wel... de klusjes van... ' is nog niet nodig', 'kan ook volgend jaar' en 'ik vind dit behang nog best leuk'....

The past couple of weeks have been all about doing stuff around the house but it's finally coming togheter. It does have some downsides to it.... You know the feeling that when you fix up one thing, the rest seems kind of blah and in dire need of a new slap of paint? I've got so many things on my to-do-list but there's one problem though...

Now if he just would stop kicking me so hard...

Zoals je ziet heb ik wat gerommeld aan de layout van mn blog terwijl ik eigenlijk had moeten opruimen. Logischerwijs heb ik in plaats van de broodnodige werkzaamheden in huis de nieuwe kapstok opgehaald waar we 6 weken op hebben moeten wachten. Je kunt natuurlijk de insteek hebben 'ach, 6 weken wachten dan maakt die ene dag ook niet meer uit...', maar ik ben meer van de 'als je al 6 weken op iets zit te wachten kun je wel aannemen dat dat bovenaan het lijstje staat'. Kwestie van prioriteiten stellen denk ik dan.... ;-)

Drukke week

Afgelopen week was erg druk. Mijn verjaardag, afspraak verloskundige en natuurlijk alles op orde krijgen in en rondom huis. Ik kan sinds woensdag ook weer met hartelust plaatjes kieken op mijn spiksplinternieuwe camera! Hieronder even een testje, maar er valt nog veel te ontdekken... heeeeerlijk!! En de foto's zijn super!

Natuurlijk ben ik zaterdag net voor de visite zou komen even naar dorp gelopen om mn favo adresje van brocante te bezoeken tijdens de Spuidagen die jaarlijks gehouden worden. De beste remedie tegen olifantenplatvoeten... not! Maar goed, het bloed kruipt waar het niet kan lopen... Vriendlief heeft nog gevraagd of ik mijn koopjes nog terug ging zetten, maar helaas... t bleef kleven. Ik weet het... het wordt nu echt te gortig, maar ik kan het niet laten. Ik krijg em maar niet aan zn verstand dat je toch echt niet zonder een verzilverd dienblad op pootjes kan. En een glazen suikerpotje op een verzilverd voetje met deksel had ik ook nog niet in mn collectie... oja en ovalen glazen bakjes kon ik ook niet laten staan. Natuurlijk heb ik wel een verzilverd dienblad zonder pootjes en een glazen suikerpotje op verzilverd voetje zonder deksel en ronde glazen bakjes, maar het is toch niet hetzelfde....

Vanochtend kwart over 10 stonden we bij Riviera Maison. Normaal gesproken geen winkel voor ons om te shoppen, maar puur om inspiratie op te doen. Kwaliteit heeft bij sommige artikelen niet de hoogste prioriteit gehad, maar hoe ze sfeer moeten neerzetten weten ze wel degelijk bij RM. Bij het zien van deze geweldige leuke champagnekoelers kon ik niet anders... Tja en dan maar meteen 2 vanwege de aanbieding. Kunnen altijd nog orchideeen in nietwaar. Na een heerlijke latte met een chocolat chip cookie door naar de Dille en Kamille door naar de markt en de wijnhandel voor vriendlief om de koelers mee te vullen...

Eenmaal thuis krijg je dit....

Maagzuur en vermoeidheid. Gevloerd. Uitgeteld. Voor mij geen haringparty bij vrienden, maar zo rustig mogelijk zitten en uitrusten op de bank tussen de vuilniszakken stof voor de kast in het tuinhuis, de dozen leuke rommeltjes voor de kerk en de meuk waar ik niet vanaf kan... De perfecte combo om gillend gek van te worden, maar daar krijg je dus alleen maar meer maagzuur van heb ik gemerkt.

Dat is dus ook de reden waarom er nog geen foto's zijn van de kinderkamer in wording. Er is namelijk nog niks in wording tenzij je de grote berg met rommel, zakken, dozen, stapels bedoeld... want daar staat het kamertje vol mee. Met mijn huidige energiepeil zakt de moed al in mn schoenen zodra ik in de deuropening sta. Een mooie klus voor de komende weken/maanden aan gezien ik vanaf nu tot aan februari volgend jaar Toos Werkloos ben! Dat lijkt lekker, maar ik wordt al motorisch onrustig bij het idee (niet goed voor het maagzuur dat snap je wel)... Weet iemand toevallig een lekker energie oppeppend theetje???

Na een week of wat flink sjouwen, verven, inpakken (nu wordt helaas pijnlijk duidelijk hoeveel 'rommel' ik eigenlijk wel niet heb), verslepen en andere verbouwklussen... zijn we er bijna! Plintjes liggen klaar om geplakt te worden, de verf klaar voor de laatjes en natuurlijk ook de nieuwe knopjes die erop moeten, zakken (meerdere ja en ook nog eens loodzwaar) met al mijn stoffen klaar voor verhuizing naar hun nieuwe, nog te verven onderkomen... genoeg werk te doen, maar ik vind het al prachtig! Echt mijn domeintje! Meer foto's volgen zodra de troep wat minder is!!
Geniet lekker van het zomerse weer!

Het schiet aardig op met het tuinhuis. Terwijl vriendlief bezig is met het beitsen van het plafond houd ik mij bezig met het zware werk; schema maken hoe ik het wil hebben, in welke kleuren, wanneer wat gedaan moet worden, thee zetten en vooral zwanger zijn. Wat een werk... vooral dat laatste! En dan vooral niet in de laatste plaats omdat ik niet mag beitsen en trappen schijnen helemaal verboden terrein te zijn. Tenminste, als er iemand in de buurt is anders sta ik toch echt op het trappetje. Daarbij heb ik het idee nu veel beter in balans te zijn met gewicht goed verdeeld voor en achter! (ik had wel gehoord dat je aan de voorkant vaak goed groeit tijdens een zwangerschap, maar naieve ik dacht dat dat vrijwel alleen buik zou zijn. "oh, straks zie je je voeten niet eens meer!" Lollig, maar ik ben bang dat ik straks mijn eigen buik niet meer zie!)

Banksaldo daalt gestaag dus dat gaat ook lekker. Winst stijgt gestaag bij de kringloop, Leen Bakker, Action, Gamma en nog vele andere winkels waar ik eigenlijk niet meer mag komen omdat anders uitkomt dat ik niet op de bank lag te rusten op het bewuste tijdstip.

Meer volgt later! Aan de arbeid van stage (en langs de markt voor band, de speciaalzaak voor verf... nouja, je snapt het wel!)

Dat zal mijn toekomst zijn als ik niet uitkijk... Ben al mn ongemakken en kwaaltjes flink aan het wegshoppen en warempel... het lukt ook nog! Het behang is binnen en ook al zou ik het nooit binnen gebruiken (wat je dus niet ziet op het mooie plaatje in de vorige post is dat er een vreselijk bobbeltje in zit en ik krijg al tic-neigingen bij het zien van spachtelputz), maar dapper als ik ben weet ik me daar redelijk overheen te zetten. Mezelf wijsmaken dat je daar straks niks meer van ziet als mijn nieuwe aankoopjes die vandaag zijn gearriveerd ophangen. Ik heb mezelf eens getrakteerd op 2 mooie lampen van Riverdale voor een spotprijsje van nog geen 20 euro per stuk! Mijn motto: gewoooon doen!

Jammergenoeg zal ik nog even geduld moeten hebben omdat vriendlief eerst de balken en plafond wil beitsen, vervolgens wil stucen, daarna pas behangen en elektra als laatste. Ik vrees dat ze al veel eerder zullen hangen mezelf kennende...

Eindelijk een update

Er is veel te doen hier momenteel. De schuur lijkt eindelijk op het prioriteitenlijstje van de aannemer te staan en als het goed is (als het goed is) is maandag de laaste klusdag voor deze koffiedrinkende, shagrokende (hij is zelfs een keer op klompen geweest!) aannemer met zijn hulpje. De nieuwe deuren zijn geplaatst en het schot staat ook inmiddels. We hebben zelf inmiddels de plaatselijke bouwmarkt leeggeroofd (en zij ons budget) en het laminaat ligt klaar! maar eerst nog even:

Zo'n beetje de hele garage binnen en buiten in de verf zetten en dan kunnen we eindelijk beginnen met de vloer! Ik heb ook veel te veel ideetjes en veel te weinig energie. Gelukkig heb ik dat gevoel goed kunnen wegshoppen... Misschien wel zo vriendelijk om alle buren in dit blokje een bloemetje te geven voor alle pakjes die ze tot nu toe voor mij in ontvangst hebben genomen (en zullen nemen waarschijnlijk). Vriendlief staat al niet meer eens in de deuropening met de vraag "Een pakje?", maar met "Oh.... is het weer zover?!" (geen grap dames). Ach, na een paar bezoekjes aan het echocentrum en de verloskundige ben je de schaamte zo voorbij kan ik zeggen! Heel ontnuchterend zo'n zwangerschap!
Nadeel is wel dat ik na een klusdag als gisteren vandaag ook zelf helemaal gesloopt ben... Uiteraard wilde ik na 5 maanden weer teveel werk doen... gevolg: vriend pissed (zwangerschapskwaal voor mannen want veiligheid voor alles he), maar wel weer eindelijk een goed gevoel van mijn werk! Dappere zwangere die aan mijn deur verkondigt dat ze zich tijdens de zwangerschap nog noooooiiiit zo goed heeft gevoeld...

Waarschijnlijk de laatste foto's met het nieuwe cameraatje... wat een onding! Heb vriendlief zo ver kunnen krijgen dat hij deze gebruikt en ik toch weer ga kijken voor een betere. Had in de eerste plaats vriendlief thuis moeten laten toen ik de vorige keer ging kijken.. had ik misschien meteen een betere gekocht i.p.v. dit goedkope prulletje!
Tussen de honderden probeersels toch nog deze aardige plaatjes kunnen vinden! Fijne zondag!!

Ik ben alweer op sinds 7 uur en heb het heerlijk ochtend zien worden. Doodmoe van een rondje met de hond en wat rommelen in de tuin, maar zooooo lekker met dit zonnetje erbij! We zijn gisteren ook nog een goedkoop cameraatje gaan halen (wil voor mijn verjaardag een digitale spiegelreflex camera dus ja....maar flink doorsparen!), maar het is me een gepuzzel! Voorlopig kan ik de foto's niet eens meer vinden...

Keuzes zijn gemaakt, knopen doorgehakt en beslissingen genomen. Het is niet anders... Ik doe een stapje terug wat studie betreft. Het ziet er naar uit dat het een druk jaar gaat worden met veel veranderingen en mijn gezondheid gaat momenteel voor...

Aan de andere kant zullen er veel zaken nu voorrang moeten krijgen zoals de verbouwing aan de garage naar een luxe tuinhuis. Deze week gaat de aannemer weer verder met het dak dus maar weer hopen op 'knap weer' zoals onze olijke aannemer het omschrijft. T zal me benieuwen of hij deze keer weer op z'n klompen komt... blijft prachtig dat wonen in de polder!

Hier schijnt nu heerlijk het zonnetje en ik ga proberen een rondje met speklap (de hond) te lopen!

Het schrijven van een blog valt niet mee als je je al 6 weken ziek voelt. Tot overmaat van ramp moest ik ook nog gedag zeggen tegen de camera. Laten we zeggen dat het ding een klein ongelukje heeft gehad en nu niet meer met mij praat... Daarnaast heb ik een hoofd vol ideetjes, projectjes en ander ongein, maar het energieniveau van een bejaarde schildpad.

Ik hoop dit weekend weer wat dingen te doen waaronder kijken voor een nieuwe camera. En zal beloven op deze goed te zullen passen....

Maar ik duik eerst nog even mn bedje in!

I really thought I could keep up with all the work from school, housework, my traineeship and tons of other stuff to still post some interesting things on my blog... but I can't. There is so much going on in my life it is impossiblefor me the keep this little blogspace up and running. At least for now. I have a lot of exams coming up and 1 big important one from my psychology course on the University at the end of november. I hope to be back refreshed and a bit more care free at the beginning of December. Untill then my sweet visiters! Of course I will leave you with some eye candy!

Ook weer even in het NL. Helaas valt het doek voor deze blog. Het is nu voor mij even niet bij te benen met alle tentamens op school, een groot en zwaar tentamen op de universiteit, m'n stage, het bijhouden van het huishouden en een leuke huisgenoot zijn voor vriendlief en onze hond, speklap. Hoe graag ik ook zou willen.... het gaat nu even niet. Ik hoop begin december weer van de partij te zijn en anders misscien in het nieuwe jaar. Wie weet tot ziens!

I blame it all on the Picasagirls (Picasa is an online forum for decorating crazed women. Really they are mad people, but I like 'em that way!). This is my birthdaycabinet and I already painted the inside white. He a girl needs to do something while she is sick and can't leave the house... But now I cannot decide... I like the greengrey-ish on the outside, but I feel the urge to paint it white. White seems to be the new black around this part of the woods and I feel it's creeping up on me also. And I would LOVE o paint the floor white... Now tell me honestly... should I paint or not?

Ik geef toe... Het Scandinavische virus wat op Picasa en het forum rondgaat heeft ook mij gevonden. De kast is al wit van binnen (hier nog blauwgrijs), maar nu twijfel ik over de buitenkant. Ik wil namelijk de buitenkant ook wit en de vloer ook (maar dat kost helaas veel meer tijd). Wel wit, niet wit.... Nou aan wie kan ik dat nou beter vragen dan aan de Picasagirls??? Dus kom maar op meiden!!!

I want to thank the 2 die hards who commented on my last post! Thank you girls, you made my day! Ok, I said I would bore you with some more stuff so here I go...

This september I started my third year Pedagogics (according to dictinary.com it means the study of education, but thats not what it means here in the Netherlands. Here it stands for the study of child and development.) and every year you have a traineeship. This year it kind of struck me how our social structure is lacking here in the Netherlands and it makes me so, so sad.

I cannot for the life of me understand how it's possible for a troubled teen to have so many case workers, still be in so much need and nobody is helping. It's frustrating.

Even de frustraties in het Nedelands van mij afschrijven.... Ik ben 3 weken terug begonnen aan mijn derdejaarsstage en zie ik nu met eigen ogen hoe de praktijk afwijkt van de theorie. Er wordt altijd gesproken dat we in Nederland blij mogen zijn met het sociale zorgstelsel en dat veel dingen goed geregeld zijn. Ik heb nu in de afgelopen jaren met stages gezien hoe het er in de praktijk aan toe gaat.... en dat lijkt in niks op het beeld wat er geschetst wordt in de opleiding. Hoe is het mogelijk voor een kind in Nederland zo ontzettend in de knoop te zitten, omringd wordt door een team van diverse hulpverleners en er geen oplossing komt? Waarbij een multi disciplinair team elkaar de taak in de schoenen schuift, maar niets doet met de hulpvraag? Hulpverleners die wel willen, maar gebonden zijn door allerlei protocollen, budgetten en papierwerk. Op zo'n moment vraag ik me af hoeveel kinderen en jongeren op deze manier tussen wal en schip vallen...

Gelukkig heb ik op al mijn stages gezien wat er kan met een kind als er mensen zijn die een passie voor hun werk hebben. Die woorden omzetten in daden en niet door alle negativiteit murw geslagen zijn, maar iedere dag besluiten het beste uit hunzelf te halen. Ik hoop dat ook ik later deze passie en gedrevenheid mag bezitten en ook daadwerkelijk een verschil kan maken in het leven van kinderen die om wat voor reden dan ook in de knoop zitten.

The worlds worst blogger

Ok, first of all Hello to the few of you who are still reading my blog! Consider yourself a true die hard.... because I think even I would not last that long. I'm a crappy blogger. There. Cannot say I didn't tell you. And I warn you... not much time for this blog also!

School started last week en my traineeship the week before and it is sooooo much work. Three days a week I'm working my butt off, go home and feel exhausted. In the 8 days of my traineeship I shook hands with what feels like hundreds of people, visiting a lot of schools and introducing myself (which means shake even more hands). I even had a appointment at a police station in Dordrecht! Well, I cannot say it's a boring traineeship....

But with that and going to school and doing homework there's not that much free time. At least nut at much as I would want... So this is where it's all ending up to... a boring blog with not much interesting stuff to read. So you could say this is somewhat like a sinking ship.... save yourself and start doing something useful instead of reading this pathetic excuse of a blog!!!

For all of the brave souls who are keeping me company... I will be back with more boring stuff tonight!

Maybe even a post in het Nederlands! Misschien dat dat de komende tijd wat makkelijker is...

You know the feeling when there's a gazilion things you need to do but nothing happens.... well... I've got it. bigtime. With all of the things on my to do list I would not expect me to feel this way. But I do. I'm bored. Cannot even come up with a decent blogpost. That's how bored I am.

Did make this in a effort to do something with my pile of fabrics..... which I did, but I also bought new fabric....

And went to see these....

More news later this week. Got to get started on school stuff and prepare for the second day of my internship. Big day because I will tag along for a housecall... AAHHH!!

My birthday was great. I spent it with some of my sweetest friends who came over for dinner. And I had a blast celebrating the day with all of you sweet blogfriends. I hope you liked your tea and sweets! I know I did....

The banner you see in the picture above was part of my Birthdaykit I got from Lili M. She really spoiled me! Below you can see the birthdaycard and the lantern which I also got from her. Not shown but also included was a great birthdaycrown, a stamp set, balloons, birthdaycandles.... like I said.. She spoiled me!!! Thanks so much Lili, you made my day! (oh and Hubbies day after seeing me with my crown LOL)

I was also spoiled by my sweet Hubby. He bought me this old silver bracelet. Yep, after 8 years he knows me well! He did not start out this good LOL... The first time he went to The States for research he bought me a picture frame.... Believe me when I tell you it was bad. Really bad. He knows me better now!

And now for the give away... If I had known that this would be so much fun I would have done it sooner!! And the winner is...... Manuela!!! Sadly this sweet Picasa lady has no blog (isn't it about time you started one???) I will make some pictures before I will send the package your way! Thank you all for the well wishes on my birthday! This past weekend I went to the 'Zandfeesten' in Brugge, Belgium. I've never been to Brugge but it was great! We bought some lovely fresh tea and had a good breakfast before we went out on a shopping for 'brocante' (same as old crap)!

We had some loveley weather in the morning but in the afternoon things changed and it got a bit wet. Not much for summer here in Europe. It doesn't rain, it pours. It did buy some great things but because of the camera trouble no pictures yet. I will be back for the last edition of 'Zandfeesten' in September.

I just got my exam result and it looks like I passed! Yeah!!!! Schools out for summer!!!!!

Ik heb geen idee of het 'nut' heeft, maar hierbij dan ook alsnog een Nederlandse versie... Mijn verjaardag was super! Niet alleen heerlijk gezelschap (zowel in het echt als op mijn blog), maar ook nog eens heerlijk weer! Jammer dat het maar zo kort duurde... Allereerst iedereen bedankt voor de lieve verjaardagswensen en groetjes! Super!!! Enneh.... Manuela.... je hebt m'n Give away gewonnen!!!! Foto's van je prijs volgen snel hoor!!!

Lieve Lili M. had me ook een geweldig pakket gestuurd. Helaas staat niet alles op de foto, maar gelukkig heeft Lil' zelf ook foto's op haar blog staan. Daar zie je ook de geweldige verjaardagskroon die ze heeft gemaakt, maar waarvan de foto niet goed is gelukt. Haar dochter kan hem ook veeeeel beter hebben zag ik al... (wat een superleuke meid!) Nogmaals dank!!! Vriendlief heeft een geweldige avond gehad door de kroon... Ach kan het 'em wel uitleggen maarja... mannen he? Al moet ik wel zeggen dat hij deze keer een geweldig mooi cadeau voor me heeft gekocht. Een oud zilveren armband met prachtige camee's. Na 8 jaar weet hij inmiddels wel dat het mooie oude meuk moet zijn haha... jaaaa, hij leert snel. Ik heb ooit een ontzettend, niet te beschrijven zo lelijk fotolijstje gekregen vanuit Amerika. Kan wel zeggen dat hij na 8 jaar wel weet wat ie voor me moet kopen!

Afgelopen zondag zijn we ook naar Brugge geweest. Wat een leuke stad en wat een geweldige markt. Sommige prijzen waren wel hoog, maar veel ook zeer schappelijk! Zeker in vergelijking met Frankrijk vond ik het hier toch echt een verademing! Leuk geslaagd, maar nog geen foto's van. Komen deze week ergens!!

Ik heb zojuist bericht gekregen dat ik het examen van afgelopen vrijdag naar alle waarschijnlijkheid heb gehaald! AAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Eindelijk klaar! Wat een heerlijk vooruitzicht zo die zomervakantie....

Yeah! Welcome to my birthday party!

Hi! Welcome to my Birthday Party!! Last night I put up the banner I made last year and painted the door and window pink. Yep bright pink. Can you imagine how Hubby felt when he came home around 11 and you could still see the pink door even at night... Well I thought it would look good and since it is my birthday and all... so pink it is! I know it doesn't really look 29th birthday-ish but hey.... I don't care!! LOL! I have the rest of my life to grow up. Life is too short to fuss about little things and regret the things you did not do in life. So live life to the fullest and appreciate what you have (and paint your door pink! LOL).

Well I am so glad you could come... make yourself at home and enjoy all the sweet treats and tea! And those strawberries are so sweet.... MMmmmm.........

The weather here in the Netherlands has not been great so the garden is not the most spectacular place of all. And just like the garage door I thought it could use some TLC and went to the garden centre this morning and bought some roses and lavender. The garden is so full of colour right now it really cheers me up!

School is almost over and I have my last exam on friday. I cannot tell you how glad I am this school year is coming to its end. The next couple of days are going to be filled with fun, relaxing stuff and visits to the thrift shop. Oh and a bit of studing but I think I can manage that.

I think I told you about my new cabinet in a previous post... Well it's here but don't ask how. We rented a van for transportation but the lady who sold it did not measure it right. So when we wanted to put the shabby cabinet in the van it did not fit. The cabinet is very, very shabby. Actually it's way beyond shabby. Hubby repeatedly gave me 'the eye' but I ignored it. Ok so it needs a bit much of TLC... But I love the way it looks!

It is in desperate need of a new paint, new glass shelves and a couple of extra screws. I think this will be a great summer project... right after the construction of the garage, the re-upholtstering of a French sofa which is still missing 1 leg and tons of other little projects!

Other news is my birthday this Tuesday! I will be celebrating my 29th birthday and you are all invited! I'm planning a little tea party and a give away so be sure to check back Tuesday!!!

I have an exam tomorrow and instead of studying like I should be doing I am drinking coffee and cathing up on some blogs. Wise? No. Fun? Yeah, every Monday should start like this! Can't wait for summervacation so all my Mondays (and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and well you get my point) start this way. Well at least untill boredom sets in after a couple of weeks...

And beside the fact I sit behind my computer way too long than I should be I also spend way too much time at the thriftshop. I found the vintage tin and cup there a couple of weeks ago. We don't need to buy a new cabinet (mmm yes we do) but do need to buy a new house soon if I do not stop buying all this stuff or 'ouwe meuk' (loosely translated as old crap) as sweet hubby lovingly calls it. It's about time the contracters started to work on our garage so I can make it my studio or nice-place-to store-my-crap. Yep sometimes sweet hubby and I have a very different look on things. I don't care though as long as I get my own little space! By the end of summer it should be ready to decorate!!!

Ok, I am going to try and pull myself away from the laptop and try to study some more... I really don't want to. Can you tell??

Finally the last couple of weeks of school are here. Between now and july 4th I have to take my last exams, write my last papers, tape a bad news conversation and round everything up. I can't wait for this to be over. It also means I have just 2 weeks to find a traineeship the new year starts in september. So.... the year is almost over and I am STILL up to my eyeballs in work and I am soooo done with it. It was a lot of hard work and it looks like I did make it but you never know so forget I said that. After schools over for me I do have a couple of paid workdays at this year traineeship at a primary school for children with special needs. Even though this year was very stressful for me it did show me I'm on the wright path. Working with children brings a special kind of joy to my life... besides exhaustion LOL! Just love it....

At the other end I am sooooo longing for summervacation! I've got so many little projects to finish for so many wonderful ladies. Can't wait to start again and create something pretty! Oh I almost forgot!! I recieved my panels from the Birds & Bonnets Swap hosted by the sweet ladies Karla and Beth. I know I'm a bit late (duhuh) but I will try to find time to take some pics and post about it. The are so pretty and they deserve their 15 minutes of fame!

I did manage to go to France for a day and we bought the big French mirror you see in the first picture. And because of my birthday coming up soon I decided I need a new French cabinet to display my collections of plates, cups, silverware and other stuff I do not use. We are picking it up tomorrow! I will be flat broke, pennyless and voor the Dutch readers platzak after that but who cares?? Isn't thats what Studiefinanciering is for? (studiefinanciering is an monthly allowance you get here from the Government for paying your tuition fee and not to buy furniture... I know).

Ok, een primeurtje.... ook maar een keer een NL versie!

Nog maar een paar weekjes en het schooljaar zit erop. Gelukkig, want ik zit er helemaal doorheen. Nog een paar laatste tentamens, laatste essays schrijven, eindopdrachten maken, filmen van een slechtnieuwsgesprek en nog wat andere dingetjes om af te ronden. Ook moet ik nog dringend op zoek naar een stageplaats voor aankomend schooljaar. A.s. donderdag een gesprek.... spannend!!!! Had ik al gezegd dat ik school zat ben??!! Gelukkig is er een zomervakantie in zicht en kan ik daarna eindelijk al mijn projectjes afmaken die staan te wachten. Zo staat er een bankje op een lik verf en bekleding te wachten, nog wat kleine cadeautjes om af te maken en te versturen en een schuur die deze zomer gepimpt gaat worden!

Alhoewel het eigenlijk niet kon maar zoooooo ontzettend nodig had zijn we ook nog een dag naar Frankrijk geweest waar ik de grote Franse spiegel op de kop heb kunnen tikken. Hij heeft nog geen vast plekje, maar dat maakt nog even niet uit aangezien ik een voorschot op mijn verjaardag heb genomen en een Franse vitrinekast heb gekocht van mijn studiefinanciering. Met dank aan de Nederlandse overheid dus (geen zorgen hoor heb er ook al heel wat werkzame jaren voor betaald)!! De kast die nu in de woonkamer staat begon toch echt dreigend te kreunen nadat ik mijn laatste veroveringen van Engels rood servies bij de verzameling plaatste... Tja en nood breekt dan wet LOL!

Ok, lummelen is nu over en ik moet hard studeren voor mijn toets modellen en stromingen voor a.s. dinsdag! Heerlijke zondagavondkost met Freud, Erikson, Minuchin and Nagy....

Spring break is here or what we call the meivakantie. That means I have 1 week off from school and have time to do ab-so-lutely nothing. And that's what I've been up to these past 2 days... No homework, no cleaning and yes, I am totally ignoring the fact I have tons of homework to do and the house could use a big cleaning up. Instead I've been shopping at trift shops, pondering about what colour I should paint our kitchen cupboard, taking lots and lots of pictures around the house (dog must think I've completely lost it) but it feels soooooo good. I was so stressed out after the last couple of weeks with exams and my internship...

Ok, back to the order of the day. A couple of weeks ago I recieved an award from Marja at Rosabeer but I did not have the time to thank her properly. So Marja..... Thank you so much for awarding me!!!! MMm... I have to pass this award on to 5 more people but I will get back on that another time. Do check out Marja's great blog here... She makes the cutest little bears!

And if that's not enough I also got an award from Anja!

We never have met but are both members of the Picasagirls, a forum with a bunch of nice girls with the same interests like decorating, crafting and shopping! I also got my Swap from Pinkie Denise from Pink Pomegranate today!! Needless to say I'm in total awe from the contents of my package. I never have seen so many yummie things... Every time I look at my loot I instantly want to move to the States en visit estate sales all day! I feel privileged to recieve so many wonderful things... Thank you Pinkie! Even though I've been swamped with homework and at this point I should be studying for my exams but this was a request I could not turn down. With me it's like a primal instict.... I JUST HAVE TO GO. Somehow I always end up near a thrift shop. Funny how that is....

Just a quick little note from me. I'm still here... behind my desk.... studying..... and irritating the crap out of me and everybody around me. Yes you read it correctly.... I'm annoying. Yesterday I listened to this song... and I played it about 30 times straight. Over and over and over.... even I know that's really annoying. But it really made me happy. REALLY HAPPY. Maybe I'm already working too long with autistic children. Or maybe it is the reason why I like to work with these kids. Maybe I should say STOP once in a while and break my habits.

Thank you girls for all the nice comments I received thus far! I just love reading them and they really make my day a bit more fun. Even though I haven't had the time to respond because of my silly idea to go back to school. Please be patient with me! I will be visiting your little world shortly!

Edit: When I made the pillow I wanted to use a fabulous image of the birdcage girl with the little birdie on her hand I found on the internet. I just love this image! All this time I couldn't remember where I got her from... until I received a sweet comment from Sandra Evertson. Turns out 'my' sweet birdcage girl is a stamp from her collection!! For being such a good student I bought myself some lovely flowers. They are a bit more purple then comes across on the photo. Just love these colors! Flowers always seem to cheer me up and boy... do I need some cheering up these days. Homework at the age of 28... well... just sucks. Bigtime. At the other end it gives me more opportunity's I could imagine. I've been thinking of attending summerschool in California for a while now but all the paperwork is holding me back. I do think it will be so much fun... That means as long as I do not think of my fear of flying, getting really homesick and feeling lost in a country as big as Europe. I haven't told my mom yet... She would lose it completely if told her what my plans are. Even moving to the other side of Holland (which is at most a 3 hour drive so for the American girls not such a big deal) is not an option for my mom. Maybe I just need to think about is some more...

Another sweet angel mailed me this little pakkage. In it was this beautiful card and 2 tea towels in just the style I like. Just for me from a good heart. Such a sweet present. Sometimes the world around us is filled with so much kindness it even seems a bit unreal. I do cherish these little reminders people can be good without expecting something in return. It is so welcoming in the world were there are so many things wrong you almost overlook the pretty little things in life. Thank you Ms Vosgesparis and all the angels like you for brighten up my day.

Hi all (or few)!

I know I’ve been away for so long. Time goes by so fast sometimes it’s hard to keep up with. Well… you got a minute because I’ve got lots and lots to tell you! First of all thanks for every sweet comment I received regarding my exams. No results back yet but I’m quite hopeful they went alright. I recently started my ‘stage’ (I think you call it traineeship in the States) on an elementary school for children with special needs. I just love working with ‘special’ kids. It is so rewarding and I just love to go to work. For me it is the best job in the world. But you cannot believe how exhausted I am at the end of the day…. But no time for sitting on my behind because when I came home its time for homework like my psychology paper or the one about IQ and EQ… Oh and fix diner and walk the dog and going to bed way (and I mean WAY) past midnight. Yeah, going back to school really made my life so much more fun!

Now on to a happier note… I received a You Make My Day Award not once but twice! From Tante Tee (Marloes) and Chantal from ABACAXI & HORTELÂ. Girls thanks a lot! In return, I give you girls the You Make My Day award for making me smile.

I visit the blogs on my inspiration list regularly and a lot of blogs who are not on my list yet but truly are an inspiration and make my day. I simply cannot name only 10. So this award is for you. For reading my blog and leaving nice and sweet comments…. You Make My Day!!! Consider yourself awarded!!!The above box is filled with treats and presents from the sweet Lili M. I was going trough some sad times and she really put a smile on my face by sending me this great box of fabulous goodies. One of the things in the box was a big lavender heart with rhinestone crowns on it. I just love it and it smells divine!

The other sweet box I received was from Myrna. I have never met her and know her only from the internet forum on home, decorations and design. She thought I could use a bit of luck and she was so right! The package was in Scandinavian style which I love! An iron box, a heart made of zinc, white candles, gorgeous handmade tags and a sweet little lavender sachet which she also made herself. All for me. Just because she thought I could use some luck. The kindness of people sometimes really amazes me.

Ok, now I'm really beat. Need sleep. Bad.

Will be back this weekend for some more eye candy. Oh and I entered a swap!! More on that later. Sweet dreams!

What I love about my Holiday Home Party!!

It's party time!!!! Sweet and energetic Karla Nathan of Karla's Cottage is hosting a What do you Love about your Holiday Home Party. Because of the enormous amount of homework I still have to do before the Christmas holiday I'm not quite finished but I'm getting there! So see this post as a Part I with lots of pictures to follow. So be sure to check back later this week! For now have fun en hop on over to the other party's. I know I will!!

This year I'm keeping the Christmas decorations simple by only using white, red and lots of silverglass! I really love the light that reflects from the silver. The bell above I got this year from a sweet friend and I spiced it up with a bright red star.

This year we are having a dinnerparty on Cristmas eve and these are the napkins I made. I used a white linen napkin and made a transfer which you have to iron on. Real simple but turned out great I think!

I bought the chandelier in the kitchen just last week and decorated it with some ornaments. Whenever we now sit at the dinnertable and look up it looks so cheerful.

#1. I got some foodrules. I use butter as glue on my sandwich. If it doesn't
stick (like chees) I will glue it on with butter.

#2. I have a 'thing' about new tea towels. I don't use them. I buy them and I will fold them up into neat stacks and will not use them. Ever. I always said I was buying them for our
new home. Guess what? We moved a year ago and did I use my new, neatly folded
stack of tea towels (which I only bought in red and blue)? Nope.

#3. Sometimes I can be a real slob and spend an entire day in my PJ's and do not
care if anyone sees me. I know I should. But I don't.

#4. Almost everything I eat or drink is a fase. When I like to drink 7up I will drink it
for months or will eat the same chocolate for a year. I usually stop when hubby
buys a huge tray of it.

#5. I dyed my hair in just about every color of
the rainbow and shocked my mom more than once with a new hairdo.

#6. For some reason I can't cook. It's a good thing hubby does it very well!! Eating is
no problem. You can check my rear.

#7. I have no memory when it comes to
watching movies. I can watch a movie more then once before hubby will say we
already watched it. Nooooooo way! It is cheap though!

He's back in town!

He's back in town and I don't mean this guy here on the right, although he has also arrived here in The Netherlands. This weird looking man is called Sinterklaas and has a lot to do with Santa Claus. You can read more on Sinterklaas here on Wikipedia (in English). No, I mean hubby is back (happy, happy, happy!!!) from his trip to the States and brought along the books I orderd at Amazon.com and some extra goodies!

One of the things I got is a huge red bucket for coffee from Starbucks. I need to know... Do you really drink your coffee from these enormous mugs?? 'Cause if you drink a strong, Dutch coffee in this size you would be awake for the next 48 hours!!! Which, on the other hand, could resolve my I-don't-ever-have-enough-time-problem! Mmm.. there are some fantastic blogladies like Karla Nathan, from Karla's Cottage who seem to have tons en tons of energy decorating, crafting and running a household all at once... Yep, now I know! Got to get me some coffee!!!!!

Speeking of Karla, she is inviting us for a 'What do you love about your Holiday Home Party'. You can read all about it here. The party is being held on Wednesday, December the 12th! I know I will be there!!!

Since we moved to our new home, the size of a Gingerbread House, we don't have any room for a big Christmas tree. But do not worry, even without a tree it's going to look great, you'll see!!! Here in Holland you usually do not decorate for Christmas before Sinterklaas has left the country on December the 6th but Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer has already left his tiny footprints in my livingroom...

Ok, the plan was to re-paint the kitchen while hubby was out of town. Needless to say I did do some painting but not the kitchen. I could not decide on a color. Yesterday we got to do some shopping and bought a color, but I'm still not sure it's THE ONE I want for the kitchen. You can check out my dillemma here! In our livingroom we've got the color basalt and yesterday bought the color deeg (dough) for the kitchen. But I also like the color schuim (foam)... and you may guessed it... I can't decide!! What would you say?? I really could use some help overhere!!!

On a little personal note... I recieved a little bloglove from the sweetest Lili M. I got the nicest Christmas card from here for some moral support while hubby was away and I had exams on school. I thought it was so sweet of her to think of me even knowing she is such a busy lady herself. So I am making something for her in return. I think she will like it! I almost finished it so I can send it on it's way this week. So Lili, if you are reading this... thanks again for your kind gesture! I really appreciated it!

I always thought of me as an independent woman but I think she has left me. In the last couple of days it has become totally apparent there are some things I need hubby for. Like just being at home instead of thousands of miles away. I suck at being home alone. I’m such a wuss. A big wimp.

The time apart does give me some time for crafting though...

Ok, I’m off finishing things for school and do some serious thinking about painting the kitchen, the entrance hall and the stairs and a million other things!

Home alone part 1

In a couple days hubby is going on his trip to the States and leaving me home alone for the first time in our new home and let me tell you I am a scaredy pants! For the Dutch visitors... een bange poeperd! At least I was the other times he when away on business. This time it's different. I'm actually looking forward to this small separation (I mean in time... I know we are going to be on separate continents which is a looooooooooooooooooong distance). I need to get my homework in order because of the upcoming exams and see if I am able to study on my own. But that's not why I 'kinda' like this time apart.. I've been wanting to paint the kitchen again (needless to say hubby isn't really keen on the whole idea) but hey if you are on different continents I might as well give it a try. I teased him al little this weekend by saying the kitchen could end up a fresh hot pink! Really, I thought his eyeballs would pop out.... LOL (ok, I know its not very nice of me but it still was funny!!) I get the feeling he knows I'm up to something but I'm keeping my mouth shut... I want him to bring me some books from the US so I need to keep him in the dark about the painting stuff!!

These are the books I would like. Except Foof-a-Life but it's currently unavailable.... And I want it soooooooo bad.... Good thing for me I found these books to cheer me up. Does anybody know if they are any good???

So by the time he will be back from his short trip I will have painted the kitchen, passed my exam (hopefully) and he's bringing me a stack of (again... hopefully) great books... So you see... it's a WIN-WIN situation! I'm bad I know.... but I know he is going to like the new kitchen! (who am I trying to convince???) I will keep you posted!

You know the feeling when your stuck and nothing comes out of your hands? Like stuck stuck? Like staring at the screen and you just can't set your mind to it... I stared and stared. Nothing, zilch... I sat at my desk for hours and .... NOTHING! I was completely struck by stupidity. And just when I thought things couldn't get any worse I checked the great blog of Lili M and saw I won her give away! Me, the one who never wins anything!!!! Well, I didn't get much work done after that but at least I was happy!!!! I won her extra copy of the Dutch version of Cath Kidston In Print. She send the book right away yesterday and when I got home today after a study group I found this in the mail! She even wrote me a little note on this old postcard. I love it Lili M! Thank you! I showed it to hubby and he was like "Great you won the book from Cate Catstone you wanted!" So sweet LOL!!! You can visit Lili M at her wonderful little blogspace here.

It’s happening again. I wasn’t planning anything and it was completely unintentional. It all started when I couldn’t sleep. Which isn’t like me. I fall asleep as soon as my head touches my pillow. Literally. But not this time. At the moment I closed my eyes the first idea ‘popped’ into my brain. What about painting the kitchen in a cream color? We painted the kitchen walls green just last year when we moved in here. And I like it. Don’t get me wrong but when a idea is ‘born’ there’s nothing much I can do about it. My brain picks it up and starts to work it out. And so there goes my brain painting the walls in a fabulous cream shade and filling my head with so many ideas I just could not fall asleep.

Totally unaware of the fact that its way, way, way past midnight and other people might be asleep already, my brains seems to think it’s a good idea to ask hubby what he thinks of the whole idea of painting the kitchen again and completely redecorate it. Needless to say he wasn’t pleased with the idea. And needless to say he was not amused about my ramblings at 2 am at night. Really not amused. I know I should have stopped there. But oh no… by that time my brain just started a life of its own and ‘evil me’ took over. Ok so hubby was not about to paint the kitchen again. Well, I could do it myself….. when hubby is on his business trip to the states later this year. My brain seems to think it will be a great surprise to paint the kitchen while he’s on his trip. I’ve tried to stop this whole paint madness in my head but it will ‘pop’ out once in a while when I least expect it. Like in the supermarket when is see a wrapping in ‘my’ colors or even printing my homework on cream sheets. Seeing the black letters on that wonderful cream satin like paper already does the trick! I need help….and I need it quick!
Ok I just needed to put it ‘out there’! I hope my mind will stop ‘popping’ long enough so I can finish my homework. Have a lovely Sunday you all!!

Every year there's a big market in Lille, France. It's pretty well known so lots of people come over to shop and search for bargains (don't hold your breath, it quite expensive) but is real fun to visit and enjoy the town. For the peeps not able to visit for a day here are some pics. Enjoy!

Ok it’s not that serious and I have been known for exaggerating a bit but this time I’m really nervous. The little spare bedroom is being converted into a study room so it’s a complete mess. I’ll need a new bag but all the ones I have seen so far are either too small (one size bigger then my wallet. I have no idea what kind of woman would buy these. With all my stuff I would need at least 16 of these!) And the other ones are so big you could live in it! When ever I see a kid with one of those big bags I think it’s going to keel over… I have my eyes set on a bag from Oilily but the price will put a BIG hole in my wallet...

Ok, what have I been up to… Drinking tea with Mme Claudette! Unfortunately blogspot doesn’t do her pic justice as you can see in the sidebar. The last time we were in France I was looking for an old mannequin but no luck there (unless you were willing to pay a really large price). So I bought a new one for only 18 euros (that’s about $24. Good price huh?). It did come with a horrible satin like fabric. Well let’s just say she wasn’t a Mademoiselle… All she needed was some TLC and lots of glue and linen. I think she turned out just gorgeous! Here are the before and afters...

I updated my blog a little so it looks more … mmm more fresh! I’m not completely happy but I will work on it some more. What do you think?

Ok, I know it's been a while but I've been soooooooo busy... School starts in a couple of weeks and I have a million things to do before I'm going to be swamped with homework. Yikes it's not very comforting to see that in black and white! Not to mention the fact that practically all my other classmates are barely 20 and living on Evian. *sigh* And looking in the mirror this morning didn't help either. I cut my hair a couple of weeks ago but I'm already depressed... it's not hip and trendy. Oh and the yummie coockies I discoverd last month aren't working for me as well. Mmmm ok, moving on!

I discoverd a great blog this week. It is from the talented Sarah London. Check out here fab blog here. She joined in for the Pay it Forward thing and guess what??? Corners of our home

Ok, no matter what I keep telling myself I always end up using a lot of colour. We bought our little home just last year so there's still a lot of work to do. When we painted the walls it looked very classy.... but there was something missing for me. Because it's a tiny little house we thought it would probably be a good idea to keep it neutral. Well, I know what you all are thinking... like that didn't happen! Mmm... I really did try, really I did!
But then I saw the wallpaper collection from Cath Kidston. Perfect for my... uuuhhh.. our house!

I like bold statements. I'm the type of girl that couldn't paint just one room, I would paint every inch. Our livingroom is just about finished and I already 'warned' hubby next year everything could be white including the floor! LOL you should've seen his face... Reminded me of the Priceless commercial!

I used to have my own shop up to March this year. People would come up to me and compliment me on the colour on the walls of the shop but telling me they just don't
have the guts to paint their walls. Such a shame. Just go for it! And honestly, I do not see the problem (sometimes I really should!). If I don't like it I paint over it with another colour untill I think its right. I painted the walls in our bathroom about 4 times! And yes, I do al the painting myself. It even relaxes me seeing instant chance.
That's another problem. When I want something changed I want it changed now! But on the other hand I can easily start something and the next day begin something completely different... Discipline! Got the get me some of that the next time I go shopping... I'm going the write it on my list just below the gnomes for housekeeping!

Oh la la! Marketfinds from France

I love France simply because you can find the most beautiful things you've ever seen. I bought the delicate china for only 7 euros and it's one of my favourite finds! The jar is for sugar but it's so big you can even fit in some cookies. I use it for sugar though because I'm a sweet-tooth and well, it's just too small for my cookies! The 3 little cups are to delicate to use but just as beautiful to look at.

We also bought a lot of big old frames like the one in the background. Normally hubby has to slow me down when I'm at a market sale because well I would buy every thing. This time I had to slow him down! I kept repeating that we had enough frames already but every time he would come across another great, not to miss buy so we ended up with a lot more frames then we set out for. And I don't mean those little frames...

And you can't leave France without buying some of these cards.

One of the first things we bought was this enamel bucket (that's the translation but you English gals probably have another name for it. If so, please let me know!) which was used for diapers.... Yep, I cleaned it like ten times already! It's in the most sweetest pink you've seen. Hubby shook his head when I bought it for only 15 euros! Now you ladies know you can't leave a bargain like that! After like an hour he came up to me and said I did make a great buy because he noticed a lot of ladies pointing at him for the pink bucket (how sweet, he didn't really liked it but still carried the big pink thing around for me.) Still not sure what I'm going to use it for though....
Here in Holland we finally have some sun so I'm going to enjoy the weather. Hope you all can do the same! Have a nice Sunday!

A bit of France

Every year we go to France for a short visit. And every time I am amazed by it's beauty and elegance. This picture is taken in Lille. A big city but some parts still have those gorgeous ornaments (do you call them ornaments?). I got a sore neck from staring all day at the high windows and wondering how life would be behind that window....

I really LOVE windowshopping but this really is window shopping. I love it al; those ornaments and shutters in the most amazing shade of blue, the little French balconies en high windows. I really LOVE it all... Believe me if it would have fit in the car I would have taken those shutters...

In a little town near Valenciennes this pink house got my attention. Now is that not the most cutest house you've ever seen? I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. Don't think my hubby would go for it but a girl can dream can't she?

Little vacation

Ok, we are on a suprise vacation and it's completely prohibited for me to come near a computer. I know I'm an addict.... and I know I promised..... So this is going to be a short post!

Tomorrow were're going to France. I'm so excited that I haven't been able to sit still and relax for the whole week. I started to declutter the car this morning. Belief me... It was needed. So now we got more space to bring more stuff home! I can't wait! For a lot of you it's not nearby but for us France is just a 3 hours drive away. I am taking my camera so I can show you a bit of France next week!

Garden affairs

I love this time of the year. Nice tempertures and sunny afternoons. On such beautifull days nothing beats sitting in my 'postzegeltuintje' (Dutch for a garden the size of a stamp) with a big stack of Home decorating magazines and a hot & sweet cappuccino.... I really love magazines. I got a copy of Romantic Homes from a friend last month.... Boy do I love it! Of course we have our own magazines here in Holland but nothing quit like the American magazines such as Romantic Homes. A real shame.... I subscribed to the American 'Romantic Homes' magazine last night. Hope to get my first copy soon!

It was love at first sight. When I saw this orange rose I just had to have it! Oh I wish you could smeel it... it smells heavenly! I love it when everything is in bloom...

Ok, the vacuum cleaner is calling my name...again.... *sigh* got to get me some gnomes to do that for me! Have a nice day!

This week I finally took the time to finish some projects.

When I bought the chandelier in France last year, it came with the orange/peach collored lampshade. It looked like something you would expect to see in Amsterdam... like in the red-light district! It was definitely in need of some TLC and this is how it turned out! It goes perfectly with my Cath Kidston wallpaper.

Oh were to begin.... This week I have been busy with appointments, painting, spring claining, tons of paperwork and a bit of sewing...

I finally finished my first bag..... Pppffff.... well, I've got the hang of it now and got a lot of fabrics that are begging to be used. Yeah... I admit. I am an addict when it comes to fabrics. I simply cannot resist and instead of buying just a yard I buy tons of it. And here they are, neatly folded and unused. Got to break that habit. Not of buying the stuff but not using it. But isn't it great just to look at it?

Ok, I've been tagged by Kimberly from Niesz Vintage Home... And Fabric to reveal 7 weird things about me. I was hoping to maintain a low profile but that's not going to happen this way... Well.. you've asked for it!

Some days I will wear my bathrobe for the entire day. I am like the Hugh Hefner of housekeeping. I get dressed and then put on my robe. I even clean in it! Of course, it's pink. Need I say more??

I collect Wedgwood dinnerware. And even though it's just for the two of us I collect 12 of each. Why 12? Well maybe one day we will live in a big mansion and have 10 guests. Then we can seat them all. (But what if we have more then 10? mmmm maybe I should collect 24....). Well, that's in theory... but I do not use it because I'm scared somebody scratches it.

I buy a lot of stuff I don't use. I started buying tea towels way before I even knew we were going to move and put them in boxes for our new home. Weird. Even weirder now we actually live in our new home for like 7 months now and I still haven't used them.

I never get tired hearing one of my favorite songs. So, sometimes I will play them over and over and over and over... (you know what I mean). Mind numbing for those who do not like my kind of music. I like the sing along kind of music from the 50's and 60's like The Drifters, Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka.. You know... the corny stuff. Always gets me happy!!! Of course I sing in my car...very, very loud.

I have absolutely NO sense of direction. I don't have a problem driving and I will drive all across Europe if I have to but not without a really good roadmap (and even that is not a guarantee I will find it). I think I can get lost in my own town (but if I have my music I don't even mind)

I have a 'pet' snail in the back garden. I have even given him a name, Sjaak.

I like tomato soup, but do not eat a tomato. I will eat pea soup but am grossed out by peas. I don't know about you but thats weird!

Ok, pppffff.... now you know! Mmm who shall I tag? I will get back to you on that one!

It's raining!!!

It's raining and yes, I'm cheering about it... It has been more than 6 weeks since the last raindrops fell. Maybe, for a lot of you not the biggest news, but here in Holland it's quite unusual. Don't get me wrong, I like sunny weather but this was a bit too early in spring. Besides, there is a lot to do so staying inside is not a problem!

Well, for the moment is seems that the problems I had with my sewing machine have mysteriously disappeared. There's a good chance it will brake down again so I'm on the look out for a new one. I went to a shop were they sell like a million sewing machines. After half an hour my eyes started to roll and my mind went blank. There were so many I kind of got lost and could not decide witch one was the most suitable for me... There should be a shop were the only sell 3 sewing machines; a crappy one, the easy going you-can't-possibly-do-anything-wrong one (definitely my machine!) and one for the pro's.

I was planning to sew curtains for the kitchen but hubby decided to do some painting first... Ok, curtains back on the do to list. I did finish the cushion I wanted to make since the first moment I saw the fabric with the soft roses and the pink pom pom's. I also made some Yo-Yo's after seeing so many cute ones on other blog's. There are some really crafty, talented women out there! The inspiration list on my blog is becoming longer every day. The only problem with that is that I am already short on free time as it is and once I start to read there's no stopping! Oh well note to self: find shop where they sell time.

What do you think? I think I did not do so badly on the Yo-Yo-thing. Ok, that's it for now. I'm on a roll and try if I can make some more. I made one into a corsage and it looks great! That way I can decorate the furniture with it but also put them on my favourite coat...

Oh, the sweet talking to my sewing machine helped! It decided to pick eggs for his money.... Mmm... that sounds a lot better in Dutch! Well, the machine is working again and I hope it stays that way... Hope to have some pictures for you tomorrow!

A bit of catching up to do...

A quick update here... We had a lovely Queen's Day. The weather was great and there were lots of things to do. I didn't do anything and that was really great to! Just relaxing in the garden with a big stack of my favourite magazines and a cold glass of lemonade suited my just fine... In the evening we had a big barbecue with some of our closest friends. Note to self: next time eat less!

I did have some time for browsing the internet and discovering yet another couple of inspirational bloggers! So, of course I forgot all about the big pile of clothes to iron, cleaning up the closet in my workroom (that's been on my list for a couple of ages... think it's going to stay there a bit longer) and like a million other things to do. Funny, did manage to go to 3(!) thrift shops though. Oh well, a girl has got to have some priority's....

High on my priority list is my sewing machine. Sometimes I cannot seem to communicate with it properly. At times it works perfect... other times it does not understand what I want it to do and instead the thing eats the yarn. Like this week. My frustration level rises and I have to resist the urge of throwing the ungrateful thing out of the window. I'm going to try sweet talking to it later today. If that doesn't help it's of to the repair shop! That will teach it!

I did manage to make this fragrance heart. It's nearly finished. I saw this fabric on a market and was baffled by the price... 1,50 per meter! I went just a little bit overboard and bought the whole roll of it (15 meter). Ok, I'm going to give it another try and see if it will work this time. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Am I normal?

Ok, I admit I have a problem. I thought I had it under control but the last couple of days have proved me wrong. It wouldn't be such a problem if I could just say no.... I know... I'm a softy. When I see it I just got to have it... I simply cannot resist. So the last couple of days I bought tons of fabulous pieces of fabric, cute ribbons and lots of 'got to have these' for our home. I know I went just a little bit overboard.... Next time I'm gonna be stronger... I think.... NOT!!!!
But really... could you resist these??? I fell in love with the sweet pink roses on the left fabric and the fabric on the right matches perfectly with my Cath Kidston wallpaper. So I told myself it would be foolish NOT to buy them! And what's great fabric without good trimming? That explains the cute pink pompoms and the red and white laced ribbon.

And like I said... I like anything as long as it's something with roses on it. And even though we have a dishwasher and there's no need for it you just can't go without some lovely tea towels. Of course with roses... I'm also a great fan of the polka dot and guess what? I found the cutest lampshades in my favourite kind of red. Again, would be foolish of my not to take them home!

Summer breezes & vintage shopping

It's spring but it feels like were in the midst of summer.... Don't get me wrong, i like the warm temperatures... in the summer! Spring is my favourite season of the year. Especially in the mornings when its still cool but you already can feel its gonna be a real nice day. On such a day there's nothing nicer then sitting outside with a truckload of magazines en and a big pot of tea watching our dog make a mess of the grass... Although i can live without the dogpart!!!!

Here is a picture of my most recent findings... A lovely old can. I love the fact that the print is fading. For me this is the vintage i'm looking for. Old, used but still atractive....

I don't know why but i'm having a green period. So, of course i could not resit the very tacky green cup.

Well, it's time to get back at the sewingmachine and make something out of the green chequered fabric. I was thinking of making some curtains for the kitchen... if i can get myself started (giving myself a good kick in the behind!!)... Have a nice day & enjoy the weather!
